International support for Rohingya refugees is urgently needed: Bangladesh

Reacting to the news that UN authorities have called for almost $1bn (USD) in help for the about one million Rohingya outcasts living in Bangladesh's Cox's Bazar District, Amnesty International's South Asia Director, Biraj Patnaik, stated:

"The cash is critically expected to encourage the Rohingya outcasts to have the capacity to live in protected and satisfactory living conditions in the camps in Bangladesh. This isn't a fleeting emergency and there is little prospect of them having the capacity to come back to their homes in Rakhine State at any point in the near future.

"As the storm season looms, there is an extraordinary danger of avalanches and surges striking the camps.

The danger of illnesses, for example, diphtheria, measles and cholera, must be forcefully fought with mass inoculations and suitable sanitation. The outcasts likewise require sustenance, clean water and social insurance. The requirements of the nearby host groups, which have been extremely influenced, should likewise be deliberately considered.

"Bangladesh can't be relinquished to manage this circumstance alone. When the world's wealthiest nations have dismissed outcasts, it has opened its ways to almost a million people. The universal group must help Bangladesh as it watches out for the basic needs of the casualties of ethnic purifying."
