5 killed in Sylhet fire caused by lightning


No less than five individuals, including a lady and her child have been murdered and 20 others harmed in an overwhelming flame that caused by lightning strike on a gas riser at a state in Golapganj upazila Sylhet. 

The perished were distinguished as Taskima Begum, 32, spouse of Bablu Miah, hailing from Moglabazar Khalermukh town of South Surma upazila, their two-year-old child Tahmid, Sebul, 18, worker of Bablu, Jihad, 20, and Shebu Begum, 22, wife of Machhkandar Ali, hailing from Ponairchak town in the same upazila. 

Both the ladies were pregnant, said family sources. 

The fire broke out at a room of the semi pacca place of the settlement in Lakkhanabanda region around 3am on Sunday and soon immersed different rooms where two families were living, said fire benefit sources. 

Dinomoni Sharma, agent right hand chief of Sylhet Fire Service and Civil Defense, said the fire began from gas riser that was detonated by a lightning strike. Five individuals who were snoozing in the house were scorched alive. 

On data, two units of firefighters hurried to the spot and brought the fire under control following three hours' hysterical endeavors, said AKM Fazlul Haque Sibly, officer responsible for Golapganj Police Station. 

Firefighters recuperated five bodies from the spot. 

No less than 20 individuals maintained wounds in the fire. 

Bablu Ahmed, a prickle seller, was admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital while others were taken to Golapganj Upazila Health Complex.
