Wreckage found of WWII aircraft carrier USS Lexington


Destruction from the USS Lexington, a US plane carrying warship which sank amid World War II, has been found in the Coral Sea, a pursuit group drove by Microsoft fellow benefactor Paul Allen declared Monday. 

The destruction was discovered Sunday by the group's exploration vessel, the R/V Petrel, nearly 3,000 meters (two miles) beneath the surface in excess of 500 miles (800 kilometers) off the eastern shore of Australia.

The hunt group said that 11 planes had been discovered including Douglas TBD-1 Devastators, Douglas SBD-3 Dauntlesses and Grumman F4F-3 Wildcats. 

Inquiry groups drove by Allen have found the destruction of various noteworthy warships including the USS Indianapolis, a US substantial cruiser which sank in the Philippine Sea in July 1945 subsequent to being torpedoed by a Japanese submarine.
